Beán An Tigh

Beán an Tigh are ghosts or earthbound spirits of women that during their life time became attached to the house that they lived in. They are therefore called “the woman of the house”. When they died their spirit did not cross over to heaven because of this attachment to their dwelling place. These women often ruled the roost when they were alive and as in life so in death. It’s been our experience when encountering these spirits that the present woman of the house feels that she can never call the place home as she feels on some level she is not welcome there. The reason for this is because the beán an tigh hasn’t let go of the ownership of the property so the current lady in the house feels this.

During the release of the beán an tigh back to the spirit world there is often dialogue in convincing her that she is dead and that she no longer belongs in this domain. When she is released there is instant relief and the energy of the place changes completely.

One example of this was when we were called to heal an old stone house in a beautiful country area, we found out that people had been noticing that the women of the house who came always left. It was known in the local area that the women would never stay in the house as the relationships would always break up and the woman would leave for no apparent reason. One woman who came with her partner left after 2 days and never came back and another woman left after 2 years and never came back. It turned out that the house had a beán an tigh and she really did not want any other woman in that house as it was her house.

Something similar happened to a women of 32 years in a house where when the spirit of the beán an tigh was released the woman burst into tears and it was the first time that she felt at home in her own house.

We have come across this a lot in our practice of land and house healing sometimes the properties are very old other times they are more modern but they may have been built on the site of the old house where the spirit still lingers. Each time when the spirit of the beán an tigh is released there are feelings of peace, relief and belonging once again.
