Feár An Talamh or Beán An Talamh

Last month we told the story of the beán an tigh or the woman of the house i.e. a woman spirit that has not moved on into heaven and who has been attached to a house or property. There is also a fear an tigh (man of the house) which can have similar effects as the beán an tigh.

The feár or beán an talamh is the spirit of a man or woman of the land. These are spirits that have a connection to the land or place and they don’t want to let it go. They are attached to the land because they use to own the land in the past and they put so much into it at some level that even in death they can’t let it go. It is still theirs. Lots of times they can cause havoc such as deaths of animals, strange behaviour of animals, breaking machinery and bad luck on a place.

One such story was an experience we encountered in Clare where a husband and wife bought a farm and were rearing pedigree cattle. The cattle had been dying for no apparent reason. After they had tried everything else we were called to the farm to see what was the problem and this is what happened: the woman that had previously owned the land had crossed over but had not ascended to heaven and was still on the land. Her husband who was fond of the drink had sold the land and her spirit could not understand why these people and these pedigree cattle were on her land and she was angry. She actually did not realise she was dead and in her own way was causing havoc, with the breaking machinery and dying cattle. No matter what the people did they could not get things right. If it persisted they were going to have to sell the place as they would be broke. What the she wanted was them off her land so she could have her place back.

In the healing we spoke to the woman and explained to her that she was dead and it was time for her to cross over, eventually her Ancestors in heaven came to take her home and peace was restored.

May all the land in Ireland be healed and all the Spirits attachments be released. May they both be free.
